We lost the war in Vietnam. We lost because we did not have a well defined mission, or a reason to be there. Even McNamera said it was wrong.

Now we are in Iraq. The reasons given were WMD and Saddam's ties to Al Qaeda. Both of these reasons have been shown to be unsubstantiated.

The war in Iraq has deteriorated into a guerilla war, same as in Vietnam. There is no winning in a war like that. The bombings in Iraq will continue for decades, whether we are there or not.

The interim government will likely not survive through a Civil War. The factions in Iraq will fight once again.

Our best option is to stay out of it. To build the homeland defense and to find alternative energy sources. By doing these things we will ensure a lasting peace.

Neo, The classic way of telling who got their butts kicked is by looking at who has control of the country after the war is over. It wasn't us.
