Well, Western society isn't aware of it. Eastern, as far as i can tell, still is. Many "primitive" cultures also still respect or even venerate their elders. But we move as far away from them as we conveniently can, shuttle them off into nursing homes as quickly as we can and, and try not to wince too obviously when they embarrass us. Sad, really. And sadder that when you DO get somebody who actually does take the commandment to respect his father seriously he is pilloried for it.
