We created a war that the UN tried to stop.

What alternative reality are you living in?

9 members of 15 total were in support of using military force to uphold 17+ UNSC binding resolutions.

15 (unanimous) members declared that Iraq would face severe consequences should it not comply with those binding resolutions.

Doesn't sound like you have much support for your position, except maybe if you repeat it in French or Russian (and German would be acceptable as well).

The UN is not overseeing the political process

Because the UN is no longer active on the ground in Iraq. Remember they fled at the first hint of opposition from Baathist and Militant resistance.

The UN cannot do that. The UN provides a slim possibility of injecting some legitimacy into this mess -- that is why they were targeted.

Let's see.. the UN is legitimate so that's why they were targeted..

The US and other CPA forces are illegitimate, so that's why are targeted.

The new Iraqi military and police forces are illegitimate, so that's why they are targeted.

Thus, the only organizations that you seem to believe are TRULY legitimate are the Baathists and the Islamic Fundamentalists.

We created a war that the UN tried to stop. The UN is not an assembly of magicians, able to pull legitimacy out of a hat. The UN did not invade Iraq -- we did and there was no legitimacy. The UN is not occupying Iraq -- we are and there is no legitimacy.

There won't be any repetition in my class either!

...Not unless it is Legitimately alliterative!
