A couple of things.

Go to View --> Toolbars and select Google if it's not already checked.

Right click anywhere in your "open" toolbar area and unselect Lock the Toolbars. If there is a minimized tool bar indicator way off to the right, drag it left and down until it's positioned where you want it within the toolbar area.

I have four levels of active toolbars:
- Standard Buttons
- Address
- Google
- Links

I could probably get away with three, but I like full browser width boxes for Google Search and URL Address.

I make major use of the Links bar, which has one-click icons to my most frequent page destinations, and some drop down lists that contain links to other less-frequent pages. Favorites is used for archiving all of the other stuff.
