who condemn violence in film but condone the violence in the Passion

I've noticed a lot of people who normally praise violent films condemning the violence in the Passion.

Did they praise films that happen to have violence, or did they actually praise the violence in violent films? The reason I ask is because I've heard of a lot of Christian groups who have been adamantly opposed to violence of any form whether in film or on tv fervently praising the Passion, violence and all.
