It sounds like a lot of double talk to me.

Either it is outright false (and if you think it is you should say why) or Bush did indeed meet his obligation.

Its not unusual in the National Guard to not make every single drill but still make all the required time. If you have permission you are not in any way AWOL. Bush did indeed meet his requirement for each year.

He supposedly spent a year in the Alabama unit. Why doesn't anyone remember him?

One general was quoted as not remembering him. Over 1000 people where at the location and Bush was only their part time. Also he was asked about it many years later. Its a long stretch to go from that to saying no one remembers him.

"Stepped up his work". Such BS....this is the military. They make it sound like Bush was doing the Air Guard a favor.

If he put in all the days (or apparently back then points) that he was required to he met his obligation. Bush might have gotten more flexibility about when he would drill then people do today but apparently at that time more flexibility was the norm.

I wonder how many other guys got out 8 months early out of the military so they could go to grad school?

At the time a lot of pilots got off early. Vietnam was winding down and there wasn't enough air time to go around. I don't think it was just pilots for that matter. The military was shrinking. Some people where forced out. If someone in the air national guard wanted out there was no reason not to let him go esp. if he had all his points for a "good year" for his last year.

BTW Kerry also got off early.
