I agree with the preservation of global purchasing power idea. The thing is, if enough people start to think that way, it may actually produce positive returns in the investments that should only serve as stores of purchasing power on the global stage. The inability of markets to deal with temporary capital flows produces distortions in pricing that move far from "fair value" on things.

So, if we can anticipate where the capital will flow to save itself, we might even get a little return to boot.
