I had a cat once that was an incredible mouser in his youth. A lethal bloody butcher actually. In his waning years, he started just playing with the mice, even tried to adopt one as a buddy.* I think the wisdom thing that comes from aging, where (if you want to!) you can grow into respect for your adversaries extends out into the animal kingdom. (*Of course, you old and neo cons would turn the fact that I had to go buy traps and do his job for him into some type of metaphor.)
