Steve, the recession started the second the Supreme Court appointed him. Money people know what surprise side economics will do to the economy, so they discount it.

It officially dates from March 1... and lasted only nine months, one of the shortest on record.

(Helped, no doubt, by the flood of liquidity unleashed by the Fed... so most of the excesses had no time to be worked out of the economy. The financial bubble transferred to other assets.)
