Margin accounts are better than nothing. Prior to the 1930s, many people were not required to put up any cash when trading on the markets.

I think you where required to put up 10%. Of course people could borrow that 10% from another source and a lot of people did but people can borrow to meet the larger margin requirements today as well.

Ten percent is really nothing; 50% is the norm now.

Alleged al-Qaeda letter claims responsibility for Madrid bombings

Last Updated Thu, 11 Mar 2004 16:17:48

MADRID - A London-based Arabic newspaper says it received an e-mail on Thursday from an al-Qaeda-linked group claiming responsibility for the series of deadly bombs that ripped across a train line in Madrid, killing at least 190 people.

The newspaper Al-Quds al-Arabi said the Brigade of Abu Hafs al-Masri claimed its "death squad" had penetrated "one of the pillars of the crusade alliance, Spain."

"This is part of settling old accounts with Spain, the crusader, and America's ally in its war against Islam," the unverified claim said.
