I googled the subject yesterday and the links returned from the first page all talked about how China is anti-trade and anti-excellence without offering much details. It was refreshing to see Loring Wirbel's article in that it at least offered alternative viewpoints.

I think people are just so naive when it comes to these issues. It is always us against them and we're always standing on the right side of history. Could it be that China is doing exactly what a capitalist system would encourage her to do? If we fail to anticipate these kinds of actions, why do we chant about the merits of free trade? If we think our creativity and social values will manifest in economic triumph, why are we worried?
