Taiwan UMC's Singapore Unit Buys NT$4.34 Billion In Chip Gear

TAIPEI -(Dow Jones)- Taiwanese chip giant United Microelectronics Corp. (NYSE:UMC - News) said Friday its Singapore subsidiary finalized the purchase of a total NT$4.34 billion (US$1=NT$33.472) in semiconductor production gear.

The company said UMCi Ltd. bought NT$2.23 billion in equipment from Applied Materials Asia Pacific Ltd. between Feb. 27 and March 12.

The Singapore-based chip company, which operates an advanced 12-inch wafer plant, also purchased NT$633.2 million in equipment from Lam Research International between February 12 and March 12, UMC said in a statement.

The company further purchased NT$622.6 million in chip equipment from KLA- Tencor (Singapore) Pte Ltd. between Jan. 5 and March 12.

UMC also said UMCi bought NT$854.2 million in equipment from Japan's Tokyo Electron Ltd. (J.TKE, 8035.TO) between Feb. 12 and March 12.
