Learning the fundamentals of fallout zone development may enable you to react and move to safety quickly without waiting for the authorities to advise you. Loading the car is not enough. You must know which direction to go and which direction to avoid. Just prior to hurricane Andrew, traffic became a real problem in Florida. The highways were totally clogged. It was nearly impossible to evacuate the danger zone. Those who left ahead of the crowd avoided the traffic jams and were able to drive to safer areas. The Three-Mile Island nuclear leak began on a Wednesday. A five-mile emergency plan had been prepared prior to the incident. It quickly proved to be insufficient. Within 24 hours, local officials were scrambling to prepare a 10-mile evacuation plan. On Friday night, federal authorities ordered plans to be prepared for a 20-mile evacuation. On Sunday those plans were still being developed as local residents were nervously waiting for instructions. I believe that most of the 300,000 folks who fled the area in a panic, on Sunday, had no idea which direction was safe. To gain a basic understanding of Fallout zones from nuclear, bio or chemical weapons takes about 20 minutes. Armed with this info, you have a first-mover's advantage. You do not have to wait for the authorities to tell you what to do. You can make your own decision. You can move yourself and your family to safety ahead of the crowd. You indicated you live near a power plant. If it is nuclear powered, this is info you should consider learning.
