An ordeal that we all face everyday. Story of the “leading” clerics of Lahore on series of apostatising denunciations on Rana Ijaz, Punjab minister for religious affairs .

Punjab minister for religious affairs Rana Ijaz told a group of Christians in Lahore that Christians were humane people and that Christianity had given rise to democracy wherever it had home in the world. Had the Christians been in Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia the two countries would not have been accused of terrorism. Muslims should not be jealous but admit that the Christians were moderate people.

Rana Ijaz is a rare Muslim politician who feels the injustice Pakistan has done to its minority communities. While one should pray that Muslims become sensitised to feelings of humanity like him, one is aware that the minister has put his hand in a hornet’s nest. The Urdu press reacted through its typical ruse. The incensed editor got a reporter to sound out the “leading” clerics of Lahore on Rana Ijaz and published a series of apostatising denunciations the following day.
