Understand that, in the days of yore, ownership of a particular territory changed hands as the occupying force displaced the previous occupants of it. That is, territories were obtained by conquests. The Moslem conquests spread westwards and eastwards from Mecca and to the north and south. The Moslems occupied most of the Middle East as we know it today and that included what is now known as the Gaza Strip, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq and much much more, and the coastal lands around the Mediterranean Sea. Folks who have not been taught enough history or not at all, especially in North American schools (the US & Canada) had heard little or nothing about the Crusades; the Ottoman Empire (ca. 1300 - 1919 AD); the ascendancy of Islam in history up until 7th October 1571 when the Moslems were finally defeated at the naval battle of Lepanto; the contributions of Moslem scholars during the Renaissance etc2, and even in an earlier era --- Hellenic times up until the Great Fire of Alexandria (391 BC). I mention all these facts only because of the incredible ignorance of lots of folks here who seem to think that Moslems had little or no history to speak of, that present day Moslems are ALL despicable "upstarts" who managed to crawl out of their hell-holes only because of their oil-wealth, and that they are ALL the terrible and shameless critters that the fear-mongering media have cast them out to be. Most folks will do well to study the history that was woefully omitted from their school curricula and to read and listen with an open mind what the government and kingmakers-owned media dole out daily. Consider the following facts and media misinformation:- FACT1: the US knew well in advance of 9/11. Yet the media said it was a dastardly and unprovoked act. FACT2: GATA proclaimed there was wholesale US government manipulation of gold. The media ridiculed GATA for years until lately when GATA was shown to be right all along FACT3: The Iraqis had no weapons of mass destruction. However, the US and Britain and their respective media peddled the line that Iraq had WMD, was utterly dangerous to world peace and therefore had to be invaded and defeated. More and more facts have been surfacing lately that the US shamefully made their accusations up solely for the sake of taking out Saddam. It is now widely known that long before 9/11, the Prez asked his henchmen for a good excuse to attack Iraq. Yet we were told 9/11 was "unprovoked" <VBG> So much for media bullshit which so many find to be scrumptiously nutritious!!!
