I guess people don't believe that the results are good enough. If you model ORCL as a "shrink-wrap software seller", then the prospects going forward with results like the latest ones don't look so great, and you can perhaps convince yourself that they are losing to IBM and MSFT. Also, if you are inclined to be negative, you could think that the PSFT bid is an act of desperation over apps problems, and that it's going to fail.

I actually think that all of these views are wrong, but they seem to be pretty common, even on this thread.

In one word, the problem is "Larry". He has lost it and he runs the company. People are just jumping off the bus that they see heading for a cliff. The bid for PSFT is the biggest joke on the street. At first people thought that there must be some other reason why Larry chose to bid 26 for PSFT, but now that he has said that he will go to court and pay for the right to overpay, there is real fear in the investment world about Larry's state fo mind.
