Exactly. JK was criticizing the Nixon administration for lying to the public about the war, and also some of the top brass, not the soldiers.

Even Lt. Calley JK let off the hook. BTW: Bob Kerrey has also admitted he took part in an atrocity. Bottomline, it happened a lot and the brass were turning a blind eye to it. Nixon called JK a "baby-killer" on the Watergate tapes, but the RNC would have you believe JK did something wrong by exposing this painful truth about a war gone wrong. Just the opposite. Once the public knew how nuts it had become, they wanted out. Thousands of lives saved and Vietnam has been no threat to us ever since.
