softechie, that is a chicken or the egg question to me. Did they know ahead of time? or were they used to make a timing decision.

This is an example of seeing a pattern where none exists.

If the market was poised to move higher, the news reports would have said something like,

"The market moved higher as foreign investors sought safety in U.S. markets after the Madrid bombing," or,

"The market shrugged off concerns over the Madrid bombing on strong optimism over recent economic fairy tales told by the President's economic advisor's."

The market pays attention to news which confirms it's activity and ignores news which contradicts it's activity.
