If he didn't want to disclose, he shouldn't have made the claim.

He had a choice. Trumpet the claim, or keep his mouth shut.

He chose to trumpet the claim. When you do that in the political arena, you're expected to give some more evidence than simply "because I said so."

The alternative is that these things were said to him privately and he doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut about confidential matters. Which is a VERY scary attribute in a potential President.

Kerry is not trusted so his "story" is not believed by many. He should not have made the comment if he was not going to back it up.

Kerry has to make a decision between disclosing the identity and thereby jeopardizing the existing relationship with the US, or to forgo any advantage he wanted to gain stating what he has stated.
