I was asking the question mostly as a different way of discussing the subject. Folks are so polarized. If we talk about the same thing in a new way, maybe we can get past that. I'm sick of fights about whether Bush implied "imminent" or not, for example. If you look at what people define as success or failure, you can infer their sense of the problem, the objectives, the tactics, etc.

Nadine answered the question about success in the war on terror in terms of knocking out Islamicism. Karen answered the question about success in the war in Iraq in terms of how the Iraqi people would view it. Each of those is interesting and informative and presents opportunities for further pursuit of the question.
