All you see is new Beemers, big new houses and debts that will never be re-paid.

Very succinct!

I honestly think that Florida, with its passive income reliance, is in a different situation than the rest of the country. The economists I have seen on the financial shows say that if we don't get job creation soon this recovery is not sustaining. We'll have to see what happens this month.

Hi Dave,

All I can says that its the best or times and for some the worst of times. Yes things are fine for the most part, but can you honestly not see the storm clouds bearing down on us ?

I live in the DC area and believe me we are doing fine. Lots of job openings, little unemployment (not even the "I've given up looking kind"). But of course, its so friggin' expensive to live here, if you don't have 2 $40,000+/year incomes, you can't do much other than go to work and go home. And the available jobs -- wellll quite a few of them don't exactly let you buy a $300K house in the suburbs.

Oh yeah -- in addition to an 8 hour work day most people spend 1.5 hours or more commuting ! What a life !

So yes, tons of prosperity at the moment, but don't you get the feeling that for the most part people are living beyond their means ? and they are borrowing against inflated assets like their homes. And they're not saving much for the future, except maybe via IRA or 401K funds, which will only be a good investment as long as buying interest in currently overvalued equities continues ?

Something to think about.

Chris
