My embroidery is going to bring the confusion and chaos of history together into a resounding gestalt of clarity?! Oddly enough, there's an argument that it will participate in such a project, isn't that strange? A close friend is coming up on her Big Five O birthday, and her brother has asked all her friends each to design and embroider a 12 inch square with some message for her. He will have them all made into a quilt and give it to her for her birthday. He included information about people who for 40 or 50 dollars would embroider your 12" square for you, but I felt I had to do it myself, a little at a time. I was briefly appalled at the imposition. Then I got into it. My design is hilarious and wonderful, if I do say so myself. The stitches are rudimentary (if google is your teacher, you can't aim too high, technically), but the gestalt is terrific and, I now realize, will definitely bring the confusion and chaos of history together with resounding clarity.
