Actually he didn't need it and because he didn't need it, it wasn't much use to have it. Everyone knows the US was committed to Israel and it actually wasn't necessary to blackmail the US to prove it. Sharon was simply wasting his time sending in spies disguised as art students, listening to all the phone conversations, and enlisting the services of a pretty girl to drain the previous President of whatever he had to offer! In fact, for all the good Sharon has done he would have been far more useful if he had spent his time picking oranges on a kibbutz. And he would have had a nice figure and a sun-tan to show for it.
