Minneapolis factory upturn seen
A survey by Minneapolis Fed and the state's employment dept. showed the region's factory output and productivity rose in '03 and manufacturers expect the gains to continue in '04. The regional Fed said production gains have strained capacity and that factories plan to boost investment in plants and equipment. It also noted the productivity gains damped hiring.

• U.S. business inventories rose 0.1% in Jan., below forecasts. Sales at all business levels rose 0.4%.

• The Labor Dept. said it's made "substantial progress" toward completing work on Jan.'s Producer Price Index, which has been delayed due to trouble converting the data into a new industrial classification system. Labor again said it'll give at least a day's notice. The Jan. PPI was initially scheduled Feb. 19. The Feb. report was due Friday.
