That's your most creative way yet to say "I have no answer."

Its hard to believe that you're this simple minded. If you lose all your money in the stock market that, in and of itself, is not a bad thing. However, if you are on margin and can't cover the cost of your stock, then there is a shortfall. If that's repeated with other investors, and the broker ends up with a shortage of funds, a financial crisis can develop which will hurt other investors in the market.

Add to the fact that stupidity and greed intersect as you pointed out, you may have been one of millions speculating on the price of certain stocks pushing them higher and higher in spite of the fact, the fundamentals don't support the higher prices. When you default, and that default spreads to others, and the stock prices begin to tumble, many people will be affected.
