I keep journals too, but not scrapbooks in the strictest sense of the word. I keep a couple of different things. I carry a small notebook in my camera case and record various observations regarding plants and animals, etc.. I record my GPS waypoints for the location, along with date, time, air temp, and Beaufort air. I take a lot of photos when I'm out in the field too. I've been keeping this kind of notebook for about 3 years now.

When I get home, I enter the info into my computer by writing up my field notes and dropping in appropriate photos to illustrate my observations. Most of the time, I just burn a CD with my notes on it every few days. However, I've recently started printing off the pages and assembling them into a hard copy journal that can be read by people who don't like to read this kind of thing on a computer. Eventually, I may take this even a step further and do something along the lines of a hand-made book. Biggest problem for me is that I don't like to do things that cut into the time that I spend outdoors. Might be a good project for wintertime though.

That is so fascinating- and totally outside of the realm of what I expected:-) Thank you for surprising me. Do you put in other things? Like memorable lures, or bits of plants? I've taken to pressing flowers in books from our trips, and putting the flowers in our scrapbooks, along with small pebbles, and shells and things like that.

My kids baby books are all scrapbooks too. Everything that I could abstract and press flat went in to their books. Little snippets from their baby coveralls, cards from Disneyland's autopia, prize ribbons- that kind of thing. I think it's wonderful to have a collection of bits and pieces that trigger memories.
