I agree. Let's get our politicians to focus on this with more than just bash words.

Big oil/energy wants a monopoly, no competition, so they can dictate the prices and the rules. Meanwhile their allies and lobbyists fight to stop any conservation measures, any "sin" taxes on over-use of energy, any funding of clean fuels. They run lots of TV ads proclaiming how "geen" they are but that's just 90% PR garbage. What they really want is for us to invade Iraq, do business with Libya, get back into Iran and get back to the "good old days" of big oil power for the next 30-40 years before we actually start running out of oil. They're also eager to drill anywhere, even in wildlife sanctuaries and marine preserves. Sure there will be ocasional accidents, maybe even more Exxon Valdez type spills, but that they blame on our thirst for oil. BTW: I'm not saying we don't have to find more oil and gas, but as we do let's keep an eye on where we want to be 15 years from now, off Arab oil dependency and 50% onto clean renewable fuels, especially solar and wind since they are essentially free and God-given.

PS: Our dependency on Arab oil is also an obviuos confict of interest as we fight a war on terror. In fact our oil dollars help fund terrorism.
