It appears that the original AP headline was not the "Bush Staffer" one.

Sounds like we're both confused.

If the AP produced this:

<<Accused Spy Is Cousin of Bush Staffer (AP)

By MATTHEW DALY 7:14 PM Mar 11, 2004
WASHINGTON - The woman charged with working for the Iraqi spy agency is a distant cousin of President Bush's chief of staff, Andrew Card, and has ... >>

Which it did according to the Post search.

Then I don't see how you can claim that the guy from the Seattle PI was lying when he said they used the AP headline.

I can't no longer access the PI link so I can't verify that the time on the PI story coincided with the timing of that particular AP feed headline but we can know for sure, I'd say, that the AP did send the story out with that particular headline so it's pretty hard to call the PI a liar if they said that's what they used.
