If Reuters's policy has changed, I think Snopes would have updated their reference.

Bill, you sure have me scratching my head this morning. I found nothing on Reuters to contradict its policy as stated by Snopes. What I found contradicted the assertion made on this thread that they didn't use the word.

The media feels free to change wording in their wire stories and still leave the "Reuters" at the top.

I don't see what this has to do with the issue at hand. Don't you think it's safe to accept that anything Reuters puts on its site is pure Reuters?
