That may be part, I don't know, as the meetings were secret. However, the official reason given, was presidential privilege, in that the executive branch has the right to hold secret meetings, so as to facilitate a free exchange of ideas. Much as lawyers claim privilege, or journalists claim confidentiality. I have no idea, why you think lawyers right to privilege, is more important, considering who they are dealing with sometimes, than the presidents need to find out information. See my answer to Ted.
