That's ducking the debate. If Kerry wins, there is a good chance that the Democrats will grab one house of Congress. He clearly will have an opportunity to make a huge difference in his first 100 days, the so-called "honeymoon" period.

I don't see how it's ducking the debate, but I also don't think it's likely that Democrats will grab one house of Congress. As you know, the Republicans have just gerrymandered Texas to increase their numbers by seven in the House. In the Senate, more Democratic seats are at risk than Republican. Actually, I don't think we're at odds about anything much.

In the first 100 days, Kerry can issue executive orders on stem cell research, rescind the gag rule, try to repair relations with allies, and quite a lot else, and that's good, but I don't think of it as a "huge" difference. He can't get national health insurance. He can't repeal or amend the Medicare bill. He can't repeal tax cuts for the wealthy. He can't do much about that stupid anti-missile missile shield they're deploying, can he? He needs legislation. The bully pulpit is a wonderful thing, but it can't do miracles in 100 days.

Maybe I'm too pessimistic. I hope you're right.

I'm suggesting that he strongly detail his beliefs and how he would be different from Bush, not on a website that nobody reads, but in his speeches and in his commercials.

That would be nice, but it's almost impossible to set out proposals in detail in speeches and keep the audience awake. Most commercials are 30 seconds long. I'm afraid we have to
settle for details on websites, and be grateful we have websites.
