I largely agree with you. I'm having a hard time deciding one way or another. I'm starting to lean against Bush based on the absurd issues that the fringe elements of the GOP are pushing such as privacy, life style, stem cell research, etc. I'd like to see Kerry come down clearly in these issues, as well as in tax simplification, budget reduction, military efficiencies, etc.

Otherwise, I don't think there will be much of a difference between the two, except in degree. If the campaign comes down to Bush v anti-Bush, I believe many will just vote for Bush. The huge non-voting sector that could easily swing the election for Kerry won't bother.

As for 9/11, Iraq, etc., it's easy to second guess. Despite Bush's falling poll numbers, those polls still give him high marks on security. Americans realize that it is easy to second guess and feel that Bush has done a good job in an impossible situation. Again, I'm not condoning or moralizing here, just giving my reflection on voter attitudes.

Accordingly, I don't think Kerry will get much play for attacking Bush in his strongest area. There is plenty of other stuff to attack but it takes a brave, bold approach, and, so far, I don't see it.
