Stern does reach into other media markets besides New York. I think he's on about 20 different stations, some of which are in swing states. The point is, Stern's 16 million listeners are that covetted swing middle voter that isn't terribly idealogical to begin with. If Stern starts beating the drum against Bush it could have an impact on the election outcome.

Since Stern's Republican candidates won in blue (Democratic) New York and New Jersey, that says something about his influence on those close governors races in the mid 1990s. In any case, Stern could effect the overall voting totals in Kerry's favor. I know the election isn't decided on overall vote count, but it is an important factor in guaging the will of the people.
