That is why I question if the Madrid attacks were really AQ, or really just AQ alone. Because they attacked 3 days before the election. Coincidence, or did someone with enough knowledge of the Spanish electorate plan the attack? OBL sure doesn't know the Spanish or anything about elections; he's still mad about the Reconquista.

Spain has a very high, devout Christian population. They left the German and French position to support the USA...That is all reason enough to attack them...Political gains will be frosting on the cake.

I believe obl is extremely limited in his direct personal influence right now.
Here is where the eight years of free play under clinton make a difference. He trained and motivated tens of thousands of warriors in his camps during the 90s. He decentralized command and control of combat operations (He does not have to personally approve of a combat OP.). He spread funding sources around the world.

Decentralization of command and control is a fundamental key to what makes the US military so powerful...Taking out one leader does not collapse our fighting ability...obl went to school on us. clinton let him.

All those who don't convert.

The stated goal in their jihad proclamation is to kill all Jews, kill all Christians and kill all Americans

If the Spaniards thing pulling their troops out of Iraq is enough to remove themselves from the gun sights of the Bin Ladins, they haven't been listening to what the enemy is saying. They've got a sad lesson to learn.
