They could not stand living in filth...

Actually, Islamist extremists (Whabbists, or whatever one want's to call them) are very comfortable with deprivation, and would probably be content to having us out of their hair, letting them return their countries to the middle ages.

In terms of population's malcontent with living in filth while ethnic minorities, often but not always outsiders, control the economy of their countries, the Middle East is not nearly the poster boy for the worst of this type situation. It's very bad in many African and South American countries. The most probable outcome will be like Zimbabwe, a near total destruction of a countries economy when the ruling elite (who are nonetheless competent to run things) are driven out in a bout of ethnic cleansing.

Again, the real problem is that in the Mideast, this will disrupt the world's oil supply which will have major repercussions on the world's economy. Not that the unhappy inhabitants of any country will be returned to the middle ages.

As a backdrop to all this there is the risk of nuclear proliferation, putting these weapons in the hands of nutcases, something that many are all too happy to have continue, provided it puts the US at risk.
