Interesting article. Having played hockey for a long time, and watched it even longer I can distinguish between a sucker punch, and a body crunching head on check. The fact that it was a blind side potential maiming shot is what got people upset.

Ironically, when the NJ Devils first came out with the center ice trap is the point for me when the game turned to "pablum" and even more ironically, Jacques Lamaire was the guy who first designed it. He was a wide open, blinding speed forward with a shot like a cannon. He would be reduced to an average player today because of the trap.

In the case of Bertuzzi, I would quietly throw him out of the league and get on with turning the game back to hockey. Yadda yadda yadda...blah, blah, blah.
