Jk told the truth about Nam. His own machine-gunner killed a kid. SEALS were used by the CIA in the Pheonix Program to go into suspect VC hootches at night, cut off heads and disembowel. Called themselves the Green Ghosts. Terrorized the villagers. yes, they were good, too good. Many crazed LURPS and Special Ops guys deep in the hot zones collected ears. It was the way it was. The way it got. "Madness" as martin Sheen's charcter said in APOCALYPSE NOW. Madness became real except to the armchair generals back in DC. JK reported it all not as a criticism of soldiers but as a wake up call about that war. And to save lives, hisown brothers in arms lives. None of the ugly stuff was being reported by our govermment. Our government was lying to the US people then and had been since 1966. JK helped change all that along with Ellsberg's Pentagon Papers release. Ellsberg was a rightwing hawk who hated himself for lying so decided to change. Nixon tried to destroy both JK and Ellsberg but the truth won out in the end. JK was a great American hero. Still is in fact. Anyone who attacks JK's patriotism doesn't deserve to be called an honest American. Vietnam was humiliating for the US but once we left Vietnam was never any threat or danger to us. Now we look back and wonder what the hell we were doing there in the first place. Fighting communism? Or not? One thing we know, the domino theory never happened. That was the entire justification for the war. So I guess it was all a big lie. Iraq today has some similarities. Not as bad though.
