The minute the popular party blamed it on ETA, I thought the socialists would take the election, it was such an obvious bit of spinning.

I think that was as much a factor as the 200 dead and 1500 wounded.

Spain had only a token force in Iraq, 1600 soldiers, I think the lesson is if you are going to get involved in a war, get involved in a big way. Also you have to take into account that 90% of the spanish were against sending troops at all.
