That's what happens when you grow up with a family accountant and a trust fund instead of a real income. That's why his dad didn't understand what it was like to go to a supermarket after all those years in an official Washington bubble.

Spain PM-elect: Troops out of Iraq
Monday, March 15, 2004 Posted: 5:02 AM EST (1002 GMT)

Interesting news. The usual folks will probably be typically upset over this- no doubt we will now have to boycott things Spanish- will the Spanish Fly become the Freedom Fly?

There are many ways to deal with terror- and one of the ways is not to do stupid things that inflame the terrorists- things which were against your own self interest to begin with. It's hard to call the Spanish action- and impossible for the emotionally committed to call it. I'd look for a good analysis of this in the press outside of America. I think it will be almost impossible to find good rational analysis in this country- the prowar are too in love with their campaign, and to deeply committed to justifying it, and the antiwar factions hate Bush too much to review the situation with any degree of rationality. IMO of course. We might get a clear sighted analysis from Asia. I'll be looking there.
