As to increased expenditures on homeland security and Al-Qaeda -fighting, that's really an impossible question to answer. When research to combat the AIDS epidemic was in full bore, there was more money being thrown at it than could be spent wisely.

As to spending that amount to rid the world of Saddam, that's money darned well spent. Think of all the money saved now and in the future that would have been spent to "keep him in a box" where he paid $30,000 a head (and body parts) to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers, and maimed, raped, and tortured his own citizens.

Further, we've moved the "front" to Iraq. I'd rather battle terrorists there than in New York, Boca Raton, Philadelphia, Lansing, Columbus, Des Moines, Las Vegas, and Lost Angeles. Wouldn't you?
