Have you seen any stories on vigils held in the US for the Spanish victims? I haven't seen one.

Haven't seen a word of it. We see daily accounts of Israelis being slaughtered by terrorists, so perhaps we are desensitized.

I was thinking of the contrast myself over the weekend as I looked down the street in vain for a candlelight vigil. Everybody, it seems, had instead left to go shopping. Well, according to the terms of this war, that IS part of the effort. Still, even conservatives would agree, we should have followed Europe's model of how to express a moment of solidarity. Off hand, I can only remember one other time where national identify seems to momentarily give way to worldwide concern: Apollo 13
