<< the top in the California real estate market is marked by extremely few homes for sale>>

Interesting.

The bottom of our local market was characterized by few homes for sale, because prices had fallen so much that sellers became discouraged and kept homes off the market. About the time prices were at their lowest and few sellers could be found, pent-up demand among buyers emerged and drove up prices all over again.

If the top of our market was characterized by FEW houses for sale, this means we hit the top several years ago!
