I think it will require a multipronged approach. Firstly, and most importantly, I see no need to piss terrorists off unnecessarily- so Iraq, from that perspective (as I said before we invaded) was a horrible mistake. Far from being "caving in to terrorists" as some folks on SI like to rant, such a policy is simply a conservation of resources for things that truly matter- like OUR BORDERS.

I know there are people on SI who will go on and on about Spain- but really, it's very sensible to concentrate on securing your own country, and not pissing people off elsewhere in the world, or creating sh*tstorms in other countries that will blow back on you. Obviously the sensible position often gets overlooked when people are playing with their war drums, but in the long run Sun Tzu will always be proved right.

That is an unintentional red herring on your part, I believe. Hal was saying that suicide itself is an immoral military tactic, a rather astonishing viewpoint.
