He shouldn't have said it. Maybe it's the truth that slipped out. Maybe it's a lie he made up. In any case, he shouldn't have said it. Given that he did say it, though, if it's true, better he should let people think he lied, IMO.

That's why I said the WH getting on him for it is cheap. If it's true, Bush should realize that no president or presidential candidate would be able to tell. It wouldn't be presidential. The office should manage at least a tad of dignity. If Bush thinks it's not true and wants to beat up on Kerry, then he should let others do it, not soil himself with it, on the off chance that it's true. There are plenty of hacks around to do that kind of dirty work.
