Its too bad the Spanish PM moved so quickly to pull their troops out of Iraq. Its got people too wound up.
It made a point.

It would have been ineffective for all purposes if it had been some quiet fading away. There is an attitude among the occupation force of Iraq that if they can just hold out a bit more things will get better. That attitude is not shared by the insurgents or the terrorists or wannabes.


My point was that al Qaeda is still Spain's enemy just as it is ours. We are still in this together. Withdrawing their troops asap will just encourage al Qaeda. Spain's troops were not in immediate danger. They could have waited until 30 June and make it look like part of the handing over of power to the Iraqis......something like that rather than grandstanding.

Nonetheless, the blame for this mess lies at the feet of PM Anzar. It does not pay to p*ss off your people in a democracy.
