That minimal possible pain might still be a lot but it will be less then the pain caused by forcing energy programs by government diktat. Where do you get this crap? The entire economy is based on social and economic engineering. Are you living on an alternate ideological planet? re: The amount of energy needed to produce a real dollar of GDP has been going down for some time. The amount of oil used on the average has been going down even more then the amount of energy used. (But most of that oil has been replaced by natural gas and it also has limits) The first part is because of the service (McDonald's)economy.
