From the Whiskey Bar blog today ...

Blogs are making a DIFFERENCE in this election, I'm seeing.

First Things First

Steven Hess, the Brookings Institute's version of Norman Ornstein or Bill Schneider (i.e. a "presidential scholar") is a stodgy GOP establishmentarian and generally a fan of Dear Leader, so I doubt this was intentional:

Hess said Bush appears determined to avoid the path of his father, who waited much longer to adopt a candidate's stance in his losing bid for re-election. The first President Bush, he said, was overly careful to put his White House duties ahead of his needs as a candidate.
"It was not a mistake his son was going to make," said Hess.

But it's a witty quip nonetheless.

Despite all his faults, Bush I was a far, far greater President. He even tried to govern without running the country totally into the ground.

"It was not a mistake his son was going to make"

To put it mildly.
