Why O Why is a family making over $150K in Palo Alto considered "rich"

Politics? To most of the almost 300 million citizens of the US 150K/year is a lot of money.

Per capita personal income for the various states in 2002 varied from a low of 22K in Mississippi to a high of 43k in DC. California came in at just under 33K. The US average is 30K.

So California is not all that different from the rest of the US. 150K in California is not that much different than 150K anyplace else.
