My immediate reaction after the blast was: this was very likely an al Qaeda attack - and Aznar will win in a landslide if he rallies his people behind him against al Qaeda terror. But he made a severe miscalculation and tried to blame the wrong guys. What happened in Spain was no appeasement but simply Aznar falling from his high horse. Tidbit: Spanish troops to Iraq carried a crusade sign, the Cross of St James of Compostela:
