I can't tell whether you're joking, yourself, or serious, that the bombing in Spain is Bush's fault. I hope joking.

I was neither joking nor not joking because I didn't imply that the bombing in Spain was Bush's fault or Aznar's fault or anyone else's fault other than that of the perpetrators, al Qaeda or whoever it turns out to be.

To the extent that I implied fault for anything--and I wasn't really addressing fault, merely trying to demonstrate to RF the shortfall in his position of blaming Aznar--it would be to Bush for gathering weak sisters into his coalition when he should have realized that they would crack if provoked and the damage that would do would be worse than if he had not ever had a coalition.

I do fault Bush for his flimsy coalition. I think that was one of the many ham-handed steps in his campaign. If you're going to be a unilateralist, have the balls to be one, not take on partners who contribute nothing but unnecessary political cover but bring with that the potential for weak links that could cost us the war when they buckle.

I absolutely do not blame Aznar or Bush for the attack.
Nor is it my sense of redfish's post that he was blaming Aznar for the attack, either, but rather for setting up a scenario where al Qaeda to get such a big win from an attack. Anyway, that's how I read it. Yesterday morning I blamed the new PM for turning the attack into such a big win by not disabusing al Qaeda of its victory in the elections. I didn't blame him for the attack, itself, either.
